The history of emeralds is so ancient that dates back to 4000 years BC, where in ancient Babylon already being marketed.

The first mines were discovered in Egypt, northeast of Aswan and were the property of Queen Cleopatra!

In ancient times it was believed that this stone was a symbol of faith and immortality, and that it had beneficial effects for the view.

The name emerald comes from the greek smaragdos, which means "green".

Chemically the emerald is a variety of beryl, and owes its green color to traces of chromium oxide and / or vanadium.

The most frequent treatment for the emerald is oiling to fill its natural fractures and to improve the color. Be very careful when cleaning to avoid removing this "moisturizer" oil.

To clean it is recommended the simple use of mild soap and water without boiling or vigorous brushing, but delicate .. !!

Most of the world production (about 70%) of emeralds come from South America, and specifically from Colombia and Brazil.

The mines of Colombia's most famous are those of Muzo. In these mines there are the green stones of the best quality.

The Brazilian stones , even if it is not a mathematical rule, are of a most light color than those Colombian, and with fewer inclusions.

The most common and famous cut is the "emerald cut" or "step cut" that it was designed to defend this delicate stone from the shocks.
The most clear stones can be cut with "brilliant cut" (the same of the diamond), or cabochon.
